SS Great Britain foredeck and bowsprit-1 photo - Rod Stowell photos at pbase.com

Bristol-SS Great Britain, Iron Steam Ship

Built in 1843 in Bristol (in the dock she now occupies) the SS Great Britain was the worlds first iron-hulled steam powered ocean going ship. She completed her maiden voyage to New York in 1845 in only 14 days. She was built under the supervision of her designer Isambard Kingdom Brunel and may be considered the peak achievement of the career of possibly the best UK engineer of all time.

Eve of St Mawes on her maiden voyage.

This photo was taken by Adam with a wide angle lens from the front end of the bowsprit out over the sea with the water rushing along beneath me. In red you can see my brother Julian who has always dreamed of working in our office. His dream has come true. It is also featured in the Daily Express article of June 28th 2008 by Andrew Eames. Eve of St Mawes is a replica of a Pilot Cutter from the Isles of Scilly, Cornwall.

Europa off Trinity Island

Damn the glacier makes the ship look rather rusty. Our 7 week voyage from Antarctica back to Cape Town was at the end of a summer season of 4 Antarctic Sailing Expeditions. See classic sailing website for more.
